Standards / Learning Performances

You identify your standard, but your learning performance, that students understand...., does not really say what students well be able to do. Will they be able to explain?, model?, etc?

Is it clear that the lesson addresses both important content and scientific practices?

You don't really talk about the investigative practices you want students to learn. When you're explaining the activity, will you describe how scientists often discuss models in order to make sure they share the same understanding?

Instructional Activities

What science practices are required?

Students engage in an investigation. I is not clear what students are expected to produce from the activity.

How are the science practices supported?

Seems teacher must model procedure. It's not clear that students get a chance do discuss how they came up with their explanations.

How are the science practices assessed?

The investigation itself is not assessed except informally.

I am a bit worried about having just one set of balls for the class. Can you scale down the setup so that students can do the activity in groups of 5?

Where is your rationale? Why are you teaching lunar phases this way?
